Sightseeing in Kandy

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before spending the morning strolling through Peradeniya’s Royal Botanical Gardens.

The Royal Botanic Gardens were established in 1821, six years after the English's final occupation of the Kandyan Kingdom. The site is approximately 5.5 km from Kandy on the Colombo Road and occupies a loop of the River Mahaweli, which surrounds it on all sides except the south, where it is bounded by the main road. Covering an area of 61.25 hectares, it’s about 1550ft above sea level, with more than 4,000 plant species, including woody trees, palms, ferns, orchids and shrubs.

In the afternoon, visit the Temple of the Tooth, built in the 15th century. It’s famous for enshrining the tooth relic of Sakyamuni, a national treasure of Sri Lanka. The monastery, with a hall and upper and lower floors, is surrounded by a moat and guarded by corner towers, reflecting the typical style of Sinhalese national architecture. There is also a World Buddhism Museum in the temple, which shows the spread and development of Buddhism.

This is followed by a guided Kandy Night Walk. Be immersed n this enchanting city after sunset. Led by a knowledgeable guide, the walk blends cultural exploration and relaxation as you meander through illuminated streets, discovering vibrant street life, local handicrafts, souvenirs, and mouthwatering cuisine.

Then, enjoy a cultural show displaying Sri Lankan arts, dance, and cultural heritage. Follow along with the swirl of movements, acrobatics, and exotic colour to the sound of Kandyan music and drumming.

Finish the night by unwinding at the Royal Bar, reflecting on the night walk while enjoying a refreshing beverage.
